Tips when using an existing heaters and electric blankets
-Never leave an electric heater unattended for an extended period and ensure that it’s unplugged when not in use.
-Avoid using extension cords with electric heaters as this can cause overheating and lead to a fire
-Never attempt to dry clothes directly in front of a heater as this is a fire hazard and keep all other materials that are flammable at least 3 feet away from the heater.
-Avoid using any heater or electric blankets with frayed or worn power cords.
-Ensure all cleaning of heaters and electric blankets are cleaned as per the manufacturer’s instructions
-Older heaters that with rusted grilles or reflector are more at risk of creating ‘hotspots’ which are more of a fire risk.

What else do I need to know about safety regarding winter heating products?
-Hot water bottles don’t last forever and the rubber can become weak, causing a hazard. Consider replacing every two years.

-Store electric blankets where the wires cannot be impacted by heavier items placed on top or in a way that causes the internal electrics to become bent, twisted or kinked.
